Icariin is extracted from the aerial parts of the genus Epimedium (also known as Horny Goat Weed), especially the species Epimedium sagittatum (Sieb. et Zucc.) Maxim. or Epimedium Grandiflorum. Icariin is a chemical compound classified as a prenylated flavonol glycoside, a type of flavonoid. Icariin powder has brown (Icariin 20%) to light yellow (Icariin 98%) color, characteristic odor and bitter taste.
